Fire: Arson Print E-mail

firefighter.jpgInvestigations

Arson is a violent crime that claims hundresds of lives and destroys millions of dollars worth of property each year. Arson is the second leading cause of residential fire deaths in the United States. Arsonists set fires for many reasons including: concealment of other crimes, vandalism, revenge/spite and insurance fraud.

If a fire is determined to be suspicious or the result of arson, a fire investigation is conducted by the Fire Marshal's Office and our local Law Inforcement. Many times, fire investigations require assistance from other agencies which include the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alochol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Any informations concerning suspicious fires should be reported to the Yadkin County Fire Marshal's Office at (336) 679-4231 or on the ARSON HOTLINE 1-800-334-3000

National Arson Prevention Initiative

On June 19, 1996 President Clinton announced the National Arson Prevention Initiative (NAPI), in response to the arson fires in our nation's houses of worship. The National Arson Prevention Initiative is a cooperative effort led by the Federal Emergency Management Director in partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the U.S. Department of the Treasury, to raise public awareness on the prevention of arson fires and to provide resources to assist these efforts.

The National Arson Prevention Clearinghouse was established to provide arson prevention resources such as; arson prevention publications, information on available grants, training, workshops and arson safety inspections.

The National Arson Prevention Clearinghouse can be reached toll-free, at 1-888-603-3100.
