Sheriff: DARE Program Print E-mail
The Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) has been taught in the Yadkin County Schools since 1989. The DARE Program is taught to the fifth grade in the elementary schools in Yadkin County as an early intervention tool for drug abuse.

DARE is a cooperative effort between the Yadkin County Board of Education and the Yadkin County Sheriff's Office to promote health and safety. DARE equips our children to become successful and productive citizens of Yadkin County. DARE is an educational program in the classroom to prevent drug and violence among children. The classes help fifth graders to recognize and resist pressures of drug offers.

The 17 week curriculum teach fifth graders to recognize harmful drugs, the effects of using these drugs, consequences of making bad choices, self esteem and eight ways to say no to drug offers. It also establishes a relationship with a School Resource Officer.

At the end of the 17-week class, the children write a "Take a Stand Paper." The essay shares how they plan to remain drug and violence free. The children hold a graduation, celebrated with their families and friends. DARE has proven to be a beneficial program to the children of Yadkin County.
