Sheriff: CARE Program Print E-mail
(Child Abuse Reduction Effort) CARE is a new initiative begun by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office 1992. It was incorporated by the Yadkin County Sheriff's Office in 2001.

The purpose of the CARE Program is to inform second grade students about the potential dangers of abuse. The program is designed to help students recognize situations of potential danger, as well as how to build a network of trusted adults. In the classes, a green puppet named "CAREY" is used to demonstrate "real life" situations and how to respond to them.

CARE will assist second graders to not only feel more comfortable in reporting these situations to trusted adults, but also how to avoid the situation all together.

School Resource Officers Program

The Yadkin County School Resource Officer's Program consists of six officers, four of which were added in 1999 with a COPS Federal Grant of over $500,000.00. There are SRO's in each of the high schools and four in the elementary schools.

The SRO's duties include law related and drug education in classrooms, DARE, CARE, establishing SAVE chapters, role models, counseling, assisting in mediation and establishing a positive relationship with faculty, students and parents.

The SRO's are trained in firearms, civil process, juvenile court procedures, school safety and other juvenile related fields. These officers are very dedicated to their positions and the children in which they choose to serve.
