Family & Children's Medicaid/NC Health Choice

The Family and Children’s Medicaid and North Carolina Health Choice programs provide medical insurance coverage for qualifying citizens of North Carolina. Families must meet income, resource (in some programs), and citizenship and residency rules.

Programs

There are several programs offered under Family and Children Medicaid. Children not eligible for Medicaid will be evaluated for NC Health Choice. Listed are the most common Medicaid programs for families and children:

  • Medicaid for Families with Dependent Children (MAF) - Medical Coverage for single parents or couples with children under age 18 in their household, or for children ages 19-20.
  • Medicaid for Infants and Children (MIC) - Medical coverage for children under the age of 19 whose parents income is below the specified limits. Health Check Preventative health care for all children under age 21 who are covered by Medicaid.
  • Medicaid for Pregnant Women (MPW) - Medical coverage for pregnant women whose income is below the specified limits.
